Proctosedyl Ointment
(CONTAINS - HYDROCORTISONE 5mg AND CINCHOCAINE HYDROCHLORIDE 5mg)
 

Proctosedyl ointment is used for the relief of painful conditions, such as haemorrhoids and fissures (tears.) Proctosedyl contains a steroid (hydrocortisone) and a local anesthetic (cinchocaine hydrochloride) to reduce swelling and itching and to relieve pain. Proctosedyl ointment is available in a 30gm tube.

If applying to the skin's surface, first apply ointment to finger, (just enough to cover affected area) and apply gently. If you need to apply the Proctosedyl Ointment deeper, attach nozzle to tube. Gently insert nozzle into rectum and squeeze tube as you are withdrawing it from rectum. If area is extremely inflamed and painful use your finger rather than the nozzle. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after using ointment.

Children over 2 years of ageYou can use Proctosedyl up to three times a day
Children under 2 years of ageProctosedyl ointment is NOT suitable for children under 2 years of age unless advised so by your doctor

Caution

If you need to use Proctosedyl for more than 7 days check with your doctor. Unless otherwise advised by your doctor you should not need to use Proctosedyl for more than three weeks. Do not use if you have previously had a reaction to either hydrocortisone or cinchocaine hydrochloride. Proctosedyl should not be used if there are other infections around or in the anus (e.g. herpes). If you have any cuts or abrasions in or around the anus (e.g. blood on toilet paper or in toilet after opening bowels) consult your doctor or pharmacist before using Proctosedyl. Discontinue use of Proctosedyl if you develop more discomfort or a rash and consult your doctor or pharmacist.
